I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Iowa. My research focuses on the acquisition of sound systems by different groups of speakers. My CV and my lab website provide more details about recent projects.

I grew up in Toronto, Ontario and lived there until I started university in Montréal. I have two undergraduate degrees, made financially possible by the support of the Québec government for higher education during that time. My first degree was in political science and my second was a B.Ed. in TESOL, or teaching English as a Second or Other Language.

With this degree in hand, I worked as an English teacher in Santiago, Chile for one year. Following that, I moved to Mexico City where I did my MA in Applied Linguistics at the UNAM. I completed my PhD in Linguistics at the University of Calgary and started my current position in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Iowa in 2010.
